A very great day, it just saddens me we've had to wait 11 years (and more) for it to happen.

I've just returned from the telecast of Rudd's speech on the motion to apologise on the front lawn of Parliament House, and there was a great feeling down there. It really was all the best things about Australia.

And then I got back to work and it was like no one else was even aware it was happening!

I didn't go to the lawn, but watched it on TV at work with most of my colleagues.

Ditto.

It was very moving. I was very proud of Rudd.

...and very angry at Nelson!

From Ecuador it is hard to get the feel of what is happening at home. The apology is decades overdue. What worries me is the opinions that I see on yesterdays and todays Yahoo polls. Then I am heartened by what I read of Nelson's reply particularly ``I challenge anyone who thinks Aboriginal people get a good deal to come to any of these communities and tell me you wish you had been born there,'' he said.
Then again I gather some of his mates walked out.
A great day but still some sad reactions.

Nelson's speech was very mixed, rather rambly and came across as fairly self-serving and grudging.

But he said some good things, too.
